Caldwell County Civil War Reenactment... A Country, A County, Divided

PHOTO GALLERY

History in the mirror is always closer than it appears.

This is an ambush waiting to happen. Shoal Creek, to the left, always has running water in it and is “in play” for any dirty deeds.
This is a Reb’s view in the cornstalks as he waits for the Union patrol to ride by. This corn was planted in July to be October-looking corn for the October, 1861, Cornstalk Fight. This photo was taken on March 22, 2009. There are many acres of sloped, wooded terrain for the “powder burn” on Sunday. It’s up to you and your commanders to figure out how to use them. This event is designed for Reenactors; the public has a dedication to attend. Don Miller, the owner, made a great effort to clean the woods of dangerous deadfall and the area will be sprayed for ticks.
This dirt road is immediately to the west and north of the camps and battlefield. If you want to ride patrol or go for a long march, this is your road. It goes on and on and looks the part for the 1860’s. A crew of Kingston citizens “lovingly” hand-picked the corn from the stalks so that they would remain standing for the cornstalk fight.
Scenes from our Living History weekend in Kingston last October.
